One of the major contributing factors to Acorn Assessors' success, is the fact that it has embraced technology and
focussed much of its annual budget on improving IT facilities to ensure the company stays ahead. This investment has lead to maintining a competitive edge over other independent engineers in the country.
We have an in-house IT team that deal primarily with development but also day to day support. They have developed custom built applications such as our claims management database, our website and online claims management facility, and also the PDA handheld and tablet PC applications that our engineers use on the road. The IT department have recently set up the TomTom GPS integrated system whereby our booking agents can view live location information from our road based engineers inside our claims management system.
Our phone system enables calls to be directed to the correct team quickly. We have Phone Manger software which tracks calls made, received and also missed calls, allowing call information to be collated and reviewed monthly, and enabling us to become more efffective at call handling.
Most of our incoming and outgoing mail is now dealt with electronically. There are dedicated e-mail addresses not only for individual staff members, but also for specific departments. Faxes are no longer printed, but come in via e-fax enabling information to be sent immediately to the correct person. Increasingly, faxes out are sent from e-fax as well, and this has significantly reduced our paper wastage and also provides us with a clear record of all faxes sent and received.
